Father’s Day: Celebrate With 3 New Picture Books

How can you help your kids celebrate Father’s Day?

Older children can enjoy activities that make their dad happy; hiking, fishing, playing catch or watching sports together. They may get creative and make a unique card, a cake or breakfast in bed. Many families enjoy a cook out or camping trip.

Younger children may not be able to participate in all of these activities so what better way to enjoy time together than by reading a book with dad.

Gator Dad, A Brave Bear, and Peppa Pig and the Camping Trip are three new picture books published in 2016 that explore the bonds of father and child.

Gator Dad

By Brian Lies Author and Illustrator

Come on –

Let’s go!

Gator dad and his three little gators are ready to squeeze the day.

Bestselling author and illustrator Brian Lies celebrates the unique ways that dads do things with their little ones. It may be unorthodox but gator dad shows his love by making the ordinary moments of the day fun. Cooking breakfast, sniffing smelly jars in the fridge and running errands at break neck speed keep his rambunctious gators entertained. He may be silly but at the end of the day he knows how to keep his gators safe and warm and Squeezed goodnight.

Every colorful page is illustrated with humorous details that will have dads laughing out loud.

A Brave Bear

By Sean Taylor

Illustrated by Emily Hughes

It is easy to be a brave bear with your dad beside you.

The sun was hot.

The air was hot.

Even the shade was hot.

And my dad said, “I think a pair of hot bears is probably the hottest thing in the world.”

But I thought up a good idea.

I said, “If we go to the river we can splash in and cool down!”

Dad said, “All right let’s go then!”

But the journey to the river may not be that easy.

There’s the grassy part to go across.

Then the busy part to push through.

After that, you’ve got to jump from rock to rock.

Baby bear is challenged to make the long hike to the river but with his dad’s encouragement he does succeed.

We played around and cooled down.

And I said, “I think a pair of wet bears is probably the wettest thing in the world!”

This sweet story of a father bear and his brave cub is enhanced by Illustrator Emily Hughes. Her soft colors and enchanted illustrations are inspired by picture books from the 1960’s and 70’s.

Peppa Pig and the Camping Trip

Created by Neville Astley, Mark Baker and Phil Davies

Peppa Pig is a worldwide, award-winning TV sensation created by Neville Astley, Mark Baker and Phil Davies that debuted in 2004. You can watch Peppa on Nick Jr. everyday.

Peppa Pig and her brother George are very excited. They’re going on vacation! Daddy Pig is bringing a surprise.

In fact, the camping trip is full of surprises.

Ride along with Peppa and her family as they discover camping in a camper van that turns into a boat. They travel to Duck Land, take a nature hike and cook their supper over a fire. But the best part of all is sleeping in dad’s old tent under the stars.

Coloring poster included.

Celebrating Father’s Day on June 19th or just spending an ordinary day with dad is a special time whether you are hiking, camping or just being a silly gator.

Not My Sheep

Have you seen the film, “Babe?” A juvenile pig, Babe struggled to understand the farmer, but he could communicate with the other farm animals at the Hoggett Farm. Yet, he was wary of the male sheep dog and the cat seemed to be evil. The story required Babe to find a way to lead Farmer Hoggett’s herd of sheep during a broadcast public competition. While the other competitors brought their experienced sheep dogs to control their sheep, Hoggett brought his pig to do that. The sheep would not listen to Babe. They were not “his” sheep. Something more was needed or they would not trust and obey Babe’s commands to them.

Web search John 10: 25-30. “You do not believe because you are not my sheep.” This was Jesus’ parable that compares the Hebrew people to domesticated sheep. Jesus explained that he had come as a shepherd to gather the sheep that belonged to God. The sheep who knew God, flocked to Jesus, because they recognized God (Jesus, as one of God in three persons). Sheep are clannish animals; they do not associate with sheep of another herd, and they will not trust and obey a shepherd who is unknown to them. It seems that a herd of sheep chooses their shepherd, more than the shepherd chooses them. Read John 10: 1-42 to gain context on why Jesus uses the relationship of a herd of sheep and a shepherd to explain why he ministers to the Hebrew people.

Jesus at his age of thirty-three, completed his ministry by being a sacrifice (He was crucified). He did not remain in death. Three days later, Jesus defeated death when he resurrected by his own power. He showed himself to his surviving disciples and some others (web search), before he returned to the right side of God with absolute power over humanity, as God gave to him. His age at his physical death serves as a marker of time. The Latin phrase “Anno Domini,” (abbreviated as AD), marks the year of his crucifixion as year #1 in “The Year of the Lord.” Jesus’ Disciple, John, described his time with Jesus in the Book of John around 70 AD.

In John 10, John repeated Jesus’ parable of the Hebrew people being as sheep and he as a shepherd sent by God to bring home the sheep that “were his.” Jesus was inside the Temple of Jerusalem when he said this to a mob of Hebrews who confronted him. In John 10:25-30, Jesus told them that their disbelief revealed them to not be God’s sheep, a powerful rebuke that incited some of them to attempt to stone (murder) Jesus there in the temple!

Most people today, do not have the experience of raising livestock in a herd (like sheep), and they may incorrectly believe that Jesus refers to all humans as dumb animals (sheep) that require guidance. You have to study the meaning of his words. He said that God’s sheep will know his (their shepherd’s) voice, and that they will listen, believe, and obey (him), that “they cannot be snatched away.”

It means that you should look within yourself. If you do not want to hear Jesus’ gospel said to you, you do not want to read what he said in the Christian Bible, and if you sit back and ponder your decision about believing that he is the Christ sent by God to make the path to your salvation, then you are not one of God’s sheep. That is a scary thing don’t you think? In his parable, he said that the sheep (that he will save) hear and know the voice of their shepherd. They are all in on believing him, and they trust and obey his guidance. If this does not happen for you, how can you be saved? Web search John 14:6.

To understand Jesus, read verses in the New Testament of the Christian Bible, most of which were written by John and other Disciples of Jesus, who witnessed and wrote what Jesus said. Change your life by practicing Jesus’ commands that you read, then up your game by collaborating with someone else who also seeks to change his or her life. Web search Matthew 18:20. Jesus promised to help you get past not being one of God’s sheep. Both you and your friend will be treated as lost sheep who need safety, warmth, and affiliation with his flock. For you and your friend, his voice (guidance and grace) will become familiar, like family, calling you to come home.

Can You Sleep on a Stormy Night?

I want to tell you a story. A man by the name of Tom went to work for a farmer. The farmer interviewed him and asked him what he can do on the farm, he said I can do everything and anything you ask me to, the only thing is, I can sleep through a stormy night. The farmer looked puzzled but thought he would give him a trial for a week. So Tom set out on his first week working on the farm. The farmer asked him to be up early to milk the cows and he was, asked him to feed the animals and he did, asked him disperse the hay and he did, asked him to field the corn and he did. The Farmer was so pleased with Tom, he asked Tom to stay on and Tom accepted.

A month passed and everything was running smoothly. One night without warning a storm started, the shutters were banging, rain was pelting down on the windows, wind was blowing fiercely – the farmer woke with such a fright that he fell out of bed. He put on his clothes and gumboots and rushed out to wake Tom, he banged and banged on Toms door, yet there was no answer. He shouted for Tom, and yet again no answer. The farmer was angry, but he needed to get his farm animals into the shelter from the storm. He rushed to the horses, but there no horses in the field – they were in the stables. He rushed to the cattle and no cattle in the paddocks – they were safe in the sheds. He rushed to the chickens and the chickens were safe in the coop. He rushed to the pig pen and the pigs were safe and sound in their pig condo, all snuggled up in the hay. After checking all the animals the farmer realized all the animals were safe and sound and went back inside. Later that morning there was Tom all bright and early, the farmer asked Tom “Did you hear that storm last night?” Tom replied “No I can always sleep in a stormy night!”

You see every night before going to bed Tom would go and bring all the animals in to safety, just in case there was a storm. So let me ask you, metaphorically speaking – can you sleep on a stormy night?

Make sure you do it today, even if its just 30 minutes a day. Is your life worth spending 30 minutes for improvement whether its reading a motivational book, or finding an opportunity to make an additional income from home, or making that call to someone close – you have not spoken to for a while, or maybe writing a thank you to someone who has been inspirational to you, or watching a movie or video clip that inspires you? Ensure it motivates you to change your circumstances, so you too can sleep on a “stormy night!!”

Live in the NOW! Phil Keoghan (Amazing Race) wrote a book called NOW – No Opportunity Wasted! It was about facing your fears and just getting on and doing things in life. Make the stand to do something that will change your life. You will be changed when you face your fears, whether it’s parachuting out of a plane, mountain climbing, hang-gliding, surfing, bungee-jumping off a bridge, kayaking down a river, learning to swim, and running in a charity run, help save some stranded animals, swimming in a water hole or even just standing under a waterfall – JUST DO IT! Like the old Nike advert used to say.

What have you done to ensure that you are prepared mentally, physically, and spiritually in your life? People say they are always going to do something but never do! Be a doer in life! Do Something! A friend once said “Activity Cures Everything!!” If you ever feel down or depressed then take action! Stop complaining about your situation and change it – don’t leave it for tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes!

Introduction to Bak-Kut-Teh

Bak Kut Teh is a famous Chinese soup in Malaysia and Singapore, especially in the Klang town. There are more than 200 Bak Kut Teh stalls in Klang. The name literally translates as “pork bone soup”. The dish simply consists of meaty pork ribs in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, and garlic), boiled together with pork ribs for hours. It is a typical breakfast among the Malaysia Chinese.

In the traditional bak kut the stall, there is always a gas stool with a boiling water cattle beside each dining table and a Chinese tea set on the table. Diners will make tea for themselves and drink it before tasting the delicious dish – Bak Kut Teh. Bak kut the is usually eaten with rice, and often served with youtiao (strips of fried dough) for dipping into the soup. Chinese tea of various kinds is also usually served in the belief that it dilutes or dissolves the copious amount of fat consumed in this pork-laden dish.

Traditionally, the bak kut Teh soup is served in a bowl (with a cock painting on it) together with a bowl of white rice. Soy sauce, chopped chilli padi and garlic is taken together as preferred as a condiment.

The main ingredients are pork meats, pork ribs, pork fat, pig tail, pig offal (liver, kidney as well as pig intestines). Nowadays, some has added additional ingredients such as varieties of mushroom, lettuce, and pieces of dried tofu and seafood.

Bak Kut Teh is a dish that you should not neglect when you visit Malaysia, especially when you visiting Klang town.

An Alpaca Farm – A Great Farm For Those Looking To Be Green

Alpacas are one of the few animals on the farm lot who are not going to harm the land on which they are standing. The problem is too few people know about how these animals are going to make it easy for them to have a green farm almost right away. Since they do not know about these benefits, the person will avoid getting the alpaca on their farm and then end up disappointed in the state of their pastures after a year of having cattle run on the farm. This is when those same people should know how green an alpaca farm can be, when compared to some of the other animals they can buy for the farm.

Grass and the pasture lot is one of the first things people complain about when it comes time for them to put animals out to the pasture. Normally when you have cattle, pigs, or other animals normally found on a farm these animals will tear the grass up. With the alpaca, they are lacking the top teeth to tear the grass up by the roots. Since they do not have the top teeth, you will notice the alpaca are just trimming the grass, which is leaving the pasture intact and growing.

Poo which you can use as a fertilizer almost immediately is something else which you can enjoy. Typically when you have pig or cow manure you have to let it sit for a year for it to cool down. With the alpaca poo, you can pick up the poo and use it almost right away. For me, I let it sit down for a while before I use it, but I have some friends who have used this right away on their garden.

Something else I really enjoy with my alpaca farm is the animals which are just big furry teddy bears. Yes, the animals are trusting and will come up to you, but they are also distrusting at the same time and if you try to grab them they will run. However, the alpaca have one main job and that is to lay around and grow fleece all day long. Since they are constantly growing fleece, I do not have to be worried about them getting cold in the winter. However, each Spring you do have to shear them, but this gives me some great fiber to work with and use in the summer months making products for my markets.

The Healthiest Treats to Feed Your Ferrets

When those sparkly little eyes are gazing up longingly from that adorable fuzzy face, it can be difficult to resist the urge to indulge your ferret in whatever tempting treat the tiny trickster is trying to tease out of you. But keep in mind that as with everything in life, moderation is key; no more than 5% of your ferret’s overall diet should consist of treats, and not all treats are created equal. As obligate carnivores, ferrets have very specific nutritional needs that differ from dogs, cats and especially humans. They can’t eat the same type of foods or treats that you or even your other pets consume on a daily basis and remain completely healthy. Ferrets need a high protein, high fat, low fiber diet with the main protein sources coming from meat ingredients. They do not digest fruit, vegetables, grains/cereals or fiber well, and should avoid sweet/sugary foods which can lead to dental problems, obesity, and increased risk of insulinoma.

The following is a list of some great treat options to offer:

1) Meat: Freeze dried, cooked or raw (If not part of their primary diet already) Chicken, turkey, beef, salmon, organ meats like chicken liver or hearts, salt free jerky (avoid seasoned meats or processed meats like lunchmeat, salami or bacon).

2) Small prey animals (If not part of their primary diet already) – mice, chicks, quail, rats, rabbits – preferably pre-killed or thawed from frozen to prevent injury to your ferret.

3) Bugs (live/dried) Earthworms. Mealworms. Crickets. Cockroaches. Live bait.

4) Chicken or turkey baby food – ferrets can become addicted to this stuff! It also works well as a temporary substitute for kibble if your ferret is ill or recovering from surgery and is a picky eater.

5) Eggs: raw or cooked unseasoned (remove the shell)

6) Oils – Salmon, Emu, Cod liver, Extra-virgin Olive or Extra-virgin Coconut Oils.

Vitamin supplements like FerreTone, Linatone, Furatone, FerretLax, Laxatone, Petromalt should be avoided when dealing with healthy ferrets. Vitamin A toxicity can result from too much of the “tone” supplements.

7) Commercial ferret treats – The highest quality treats are free of all sugar or soy ingredients. Here are a few good ones:

– Wysong Daily Dream Ferret Treats

– Stella & Chewys freeze dried

– PureBites Freeze dried

The following are also OK in moderation but are less preferred because of trace amounts of sugar and/or soy:

– N-Bone Ferret Chew Treats

– Cheweasel Edible Chew toys

– Fuzzys’ Foamy Fries

– Brown’s Natural Chicken Strips Ferret Treat

Avoid most other “ferret treats” sold in pet stores; many are high in sugar, have fruits and vegetables as the main ingredients, and almost no protein.

Do Not Feed List:

Vegetables, fruit, dried fruit (including raisins), alcohol, sugary drinks or juice, coffee and tea products, garlic or shallots, cereals, dairy products, seeds and nuts (can cause blockages), chocolate, candy, fruit snacks, peanut butter, natural chew toys not meant for ferrets (like cow hooves, pig ears or rawhide – can cause intestinal blockages in ferrets), dog or cat treats.

When in doubt – don’t let your ferret eat it, even if he or she wants it! Remember… ferrets will eat a piece of deadly Styrofoam or plastic just as quickly as they will a tasty piece of meat – so they’re clearly not always the best judges of what is or isn’t good for them. You have to be the smart one in the family, and keep them on the safe path towards a long and healthy life; even if that means keeping them from eating things that they’re absolutely convinced that they want to eat. Being the bad cop and limiting your ferret’s treats will pay off when you get to enjoy the benefit of your bouncy, bright-eyed bandit’s company for many more years to come.

Bass Fishing Tackle Techniques – The 3 Best Bass Lures For Bagging a Big One!

If you’re anything like me, you’ve tried a ton of different lures meant for snagging a big bass, and you probably have your favorites. If, however, you are looking to add new bass fishing tackle to your current arsenal, or just getting started with bass fishing, read on to discover my top 3 picks for the best bass lures around!

1. Spinnerbaits

When a bass wants dinner, he looks for a baitfish…and spinnerbaits look a whole lot like dinner to a bass! These lures tend to snag bigger bass, and are great for covering a wide area of water quickly. They work year-round, even in winter, so make a perfect go-to lure.

With a spinnerbait, you’ll rarely lose a fish because the big hook holds them tight.

2. Crankbaits

These look like crawfish (another bass favorite) or baitfish, and come in an overwhelming variety of shapes, sizes and colors. They work well in almost all waters, are the most realistic looking lures around, and are simple to cast.

If you haven’t tried them before, your best bet is to grab the same crankbait in several different sizes and colors and see what the bass in your area like. You can always add more…and you’ll definitely want to once you start reeling in bass with them!

3. Jig and Pig

This type of bait has stood the test of time, and for good reason. To a bass, it looks like a crawfish…and the bigger bass really tend to go for it. If you don’t know, a jig and pig is a lead-headed jig with a rubber skirt and plastic or pork as the frog trailer.

A jig and pig is light enough to fish across rocks and in brush without getting too hung up, and is also good for flipping around heavy cover. Drag, slide and hop it along, just like a crawling crayfish, and you’ll attract quality bass.

Happy Fishing.

Cuban Hog Roast Menu Ideas For Your Backyard Party

Who can ever say no to a crispy, tender, flavorful and mouth-watering Cuban pig roast? If you’re planning for a backyard party this weekend, a perfectly roasted hog will truly make the event memorable. But do you know what will make the affair even more spectacular? An enjoyable menu that will compliment the star of the buffet! If you are in the blur and don’t know what to cook, try these suggestions.

A. Sauces For The Hog Roast

1. Chimichurri Sauce

The chimichurri sauce is perfect not only for hog roasts but also for other types of grilled dishes. To make a delicious serving of this dip, simply combine red wine vinegar, fresh cilantro, cumin, olive oil, garlic cloves, salt, crushed red pepper and a puree of fresh Italian parsley.

2. Papaya Mango Salsa

To give your roast a kick, prepare a refreshing and light serving of papaya mango salsa. The tropical flavors will give your menu a delightful twist. Just dice some papaya and ripe mangoes. Combine the fruits with minced garlic, chopped red onions, cider vinegar, black pepper, salt, cilantro leaves and currants.

B. Side Dishes

1. Frijoles Colorados

Known to us as the popular Cuban red beans, this dish is a hearty soup that’s made from the combination of rice, red kidney beans and ham. It’s made even more flavorful with a number of spices such as cumin, oregano, red pepper, ground pepper, salt, onion and tomato sauce.

2. Calabaza a la Parilla

Veggies are also great side dishes for roast pig! Cut a butternut squash or calabaza into cubes or slices. Whisk some vinegar and virgin olive oil in a bowl and then drizzle it over the squash. Season with salt and pepper then roast them on the grill until they turn brown.

3. Papa Rellenas

If we love our Shepherd’s pie, Cubans love their Papa Rellenas. These are stuffed and boiled potatoes that are also perfect for grilled dishes. To make this dish, you have to prepare the stuffing first. It’s a combination of ground beef, garlic, onion and green pepper. The mixture should be flavored with pepper, cumin, salt and then mixed with vinegar and tomato paste.

4. Arroz Azafran

It’s Arroz Azafran for the Cubans but we know this by the name of Saffron Rice. Instead of just cooking rice with water, it is cooked in a mixture of broth and saffron. When it’s cooked, it will be transferred to a skillet and cooked over medium heat. To add flavor to the rice, you can add salt, garlic and onion, too.

C. Desserts

1. Chifles

The name may twist your tongue but actually, it’s just fried plantains. These aren’t sweet though because they’re actually drizzled with salt instead of sugar. However, they’re still considered as a delectable dessert by Cubans.

2. Helado de Coctel de Frutas

Tropical fruits will always be a part of a Cuban buffet. Helado de Coctel de Frutas is simply a combination of fruit cocktail, condensed milk and orangey soda. Most people actually compare this dessert to ice cream. The comparison is almost accurate but you should know that this treat is a little lighter.

3. Churros

Churros are cinnamon-flavored pastries that are paired or dipped in a rich chocolate sauce. I’m pretty sure that you are familiar with these because even malls have them!

Chinese Zodiac Signs For Love Compatibility Analysis

You have read about using Indian Numerology and Western Astrology to analyse love compatibility.Today you will learn how to analyse love compatibility using the 12 animals of the chinese zodiac and how accurate this method is.

Before I start on the steps on analysing love compatibility through the chinese zodiac signs, let me tell you the story of how the 12 animals came about…

A long time ago,the Jade Emperor in Heaven wanted to find 12 animals to represent each year.He started a race among all the animals. The first 12 that reached heaven will get to rule each year. When the animals knew about this race, all of them started to make their way to heaven.

The Cat and the Rat used to be good friends. The Cat asked the Rat to wake him up the next day,so that they can set off together. The Rat woke up early, feeling very excited,he forgot to wake up the Cat.

On his way to heaven, the Rat met the Ox.Knowing that he could leverage on the Ox,he asked the Ox for a ride.In exchange,he would help the Ox keep a lookout for any dangers during the long journey. The Ox,being an agreeable and easygoing fellow agreed to the Rat’s request.

After reaching heaven, the Rat jumped down from the head of the Ox and became the first animal of the Chinese Zodiac.Although this was very unfair for the Ox,he did not hold it against the Rat.In fact,he was happy for the Rat for being number 1.

The Ox became number 2.(This probably explains why Rat and Ox people get along very well). One by one,the other animals came in one by one.Until the Pig,who is the 12th and the last animal.

At this moment…the Cat woke up.When he found out that the Rat left without him,he was furious. To make matters worse, the Rat was number 1.The Cat swore that he’ll skin the Rat alive if he ever saw the Rat.Which explains why Cats catch Rats in this present day.

Now,how does all this relate to the present?

Each of the 12 animals rule a year. For example if you are born in 2007,you are born in the year of Pig.You will have a lot of characteristics of the Pig.Next,I will list out all the 12 animals and their order.

1st is the Rat.

2nd is the Ox.

3rd is the Tiger.

4th is the Rabbit.

5th is the Dragon.

6th is the Snake.

7th is the Horse.

8th is the Goat.

9th is the Monkey.

10th is the Rooster.

11th is the Dog.

12th is the Pig.

Basing on your date of birth, you can determine what is your chinese zodiac sign and which animal are you born under. If you have difficulty finding out which animal sign you are born under, you can check out from the internet. There are some sites which let you key in your birth date and returns with your chinese zodiac sign.

Next, you will learn about the affinities between each zodiac sign…There are 2 types of affinities, the first is the affinity group and the second is the affinity pair.

The affinity group consist of 3 animals. There are 4 groups altogether. Here they are…

1st group:Rat,Dragon and Monkey.

2nd group:Ox,Snake and Rooster.

3rd group:Tiger,Horse and Dog.

4th group:Rabbit,Goat and Pig.

As for the affinity pair, there are 6 pairs. Here they are…

1.Rat and Ox.

2.Tiger and Pig.

3.Rabbit and Dog.

4.Dragon and Rooster.

5.Snake and Monkey.

6.Horse and Goat.

You should always choose a partner from the affinity group.Your second choice is from the affinity pair. For example…

If you are born in the year of Rat,you should look for a partner born either in Dragon year or Monkey year.If not, someone born in Ox year is also good for you.

That is for the compatible signs. Now you will learn about the incompatible signs.Incompatible signs are also called clashing signs. They are opposite each other. Here they are…

1.Rat clashes with Horse.

2.Ox clashes with Goat.

3.Tiger clashes with Monkey.

4.Rabbit clashes with Rooster.

5.Dragon clashes with Dog.

6.Snake clashes with Pig.

Basing on the information above, you should not look for a partner born under a sign that clashes with yours.

This method of analysing love compatibility is quite general. You are probably wondering…how about those signs which neither clash nor in affinity, how to gauge their compatibility?A way to do that is to compare both signs’ personality then analyse from there. But it’s not accurate.

It is also not true to say that couples with clashing signs will not have a lasting relationship.I have came across a number of them who have clashing signs. But they are still very loving. This method only has a 65% accuracy.

But all is not lost. You can still use this knowledge to entertain new friends you meet at social gatherings.
